The Secret Spy Garage

St John's Road, near Clapham Junction, is a cheerful busy shopping street - much as it was in the 1970s. In the 70s, however, it was also home to a spy garage.

MI5 agents from Section 4 of 'A' Technical Branch had the particular job of watching over targets from specially equipped cars and vans; in fact, they were often referred to as .The Watchers". And for a long time, the specially-equipped spy vans were kept in a garage just of St John's Road, on Barnard Road, behind Marks and Spencer.

In the late 1970s, they found out that someone had been watching the Watchers - that Russian spies had been sneakily photographing this garage - and they promptly moved out to another, more secret, base. The garage no longer exists.
